Role Summary

We provide safety critical services across the public and private sectors and ensuring our clients' employees are safe and well in the workplace. The work you carry out will have a direct effect on people's physical and mental wellbeing.

This role would predominately involve working with Optima Health's Appian-based occupational health portal. Appian is a powerful “low-code” platform that allows users to design & implement Business Process Management (BPM) through simplified design tools.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

As an Applications Developer you will be working as part of a talented agile team to enhance and maintain the myOHportal and supporting applications. Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Work with the Development team to support and develop our Occupational Health portal (based on Appian)
  • Investigating defects affecting customers and implementing fixes.
  • Develop new functionality and ensure the effective operation of the platform to support the health, wellbeing and safety of workers across the UK, including new clinical algorithms and business process integration with customer organisations.
  • Developing new features and supporting the live system
  • Learning/upskilling in the Appian platform (training provided)
  • Working with several modern open source and proprietary technologies
  • Working well within an established Agile team

Experience, skills and knowledge required for the role

  • Passion for learning and using new technologies
  • Competent in a range of front and back-end web technologies such as (but not necessarily all of the following): PHP, Python, Ruby, Java, SQL, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, AJAX, Git
  • Full stack development g. Linux/Windows, Apache/Nginx, Docker
  • Experience of software/web development
  • Experience consuming RESTful web APIs
  • Experience working in an agile environment and full involvement in the SDLC
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex ideas (especially around health care)

Desirable skills

  • BPM/low-code platforms (e.g. Appian, IBM PBM Pega, Filenet, Tibco, PowerApps)
  • Experience using SharePoint Designer
  • Working knowledge of Quality Assurance practices and technologies, e.g. Selenium/WebDriver, and different approaches to testing software
  • Mobile and mobile-friendly technologies e.g. React, iOS, Android
  • Experience architecting REST APIs
  • Experience working with serverless technologies (AWS Lambda)
  • Experience working with Azure AD integrations
  • Experience using software development frameworks (e.g. Laravel, Lumen, Next, Gatsby, Express, React-static, Flask)
